Product Description:

The KDA 2.1-050-3-LPI-U1 spindle drive is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the KDA Spindle Drives series. This second-generation unit converts regulated direct current from a shared DC bus into the three-phase voltage required by high-speed spindle motors. It monitors current, speed, and position in real time so machining centers, drilling stations, and grinding heads can maintain commanded spindle speed as cutting load changes. Electronic control of acceleration and deceleration also gives the machine more repeatable spindle behavior than systems that rely on mechanical speed variators. That makes it well suited for processes where stable spindle speed affects surface finish and cutting consistency.

Internally, the power section draws from a DC intermediate circuit rated at 300 VDC and can supply a continuous output of 50 A to the connected spindle motor. Thermal management relies on a mounted heat sink blower powered by 115 V/50–60 Hz, which forces air across the fins so the drive can sustain load without excessive heat buildup. This airflow helps the power semiconductors remain within their operating range during extended duty cycles. The electronic assemblies are intended for ambient conditions from 5 °C to 45 °C. Installation altitude is limited to 1000 m because thinner air reduces cooling effectiveness.

The drive uses forced cooling, which allows close cabinet placement where airflow is managed correctly. Speed references are received digitally over the SERCOS interface, allowing the CNC control to send synchronized setpoints with very low delay. Digital reference exchange also supports coordinated spindle behavior with the rest of the machine axes during machining cycles. For position feedback, the unit provides an incremental encoder output and a secondary input channel for spindle-mounted or auxiliary motor encoders. That arrangement supports homing, threading, and C-axis operation without an added interface card.
