The KDA 2.1-050-3-APD-U1 is a cabinet-mounted spindle drive from Bosch Rexroth Indramat in the KDA Spindle Drives series. In a CNC cabinet, it connects to a common DC bus and modulates three-phase power for high-speed milling, drilling, or grinding spindles. By receiving velocity references from the numerical controller and returning spindle feedback, the unit keeps speed error low during rapid load changes. This type of drive is intended for machine tools that need stable spindle performance during cutting, acceleration, and deceleration. Its design supports integration with Indramat supply modules and uses an integral heat sink and blower assembly to remove generated heat.
The power section operates from a 300 VDC bus, and the inverter can deliver a continuous output current of 50 A to the spindle windings. The internal control electronics and IGBTs are cooled by a heat sink that is flushed with air from a dedicated blower powered by 115 V, 50/60 Hz. Air moves across the fins through forced cooling, which helps prevent thermal derating as cabinet temperature rises. With this arrangement, the drive converts the DC link voltage into a controlled three-phase waveform while staying within its current limits. The regulated output supports spindle operation over a wide speed range and responds quickly to changing load conditions during machining.
The unit operates in ambient temperatures from 5 to 45 °C and at altitudes up to 1000 m above sea level without current derating. It accepts a digital position command value when coordinated spindle positioning is required, and a second encoder socket is provided for spindle feedback or additional motor feedback. A separate analog speed reference input remains available for conventional speed control. The combination of analog and digital command channels allows the drive to serve standard speed-controlled spindles as well as applications that require orientation, synchronous tapping, or C-axis operation. These connections give the control system flexible ways to manage spindle speed and position from the same drive platform.
