By presenting a controlled impedance to the public utility, it helps automation cells meet plant-wide electromagnetic compatibility rules and protects upstream circuit breakers from peak inrush currents drawn by drive rectifiers. This placement is especially useful in cabinets where several drives share the same incoming supply, because unwanted noise can be reduced before it spreads through the rest of the installation.
