The HLT05.1W-045K-N-D7-NNNN braking unit is produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the HLT Braking Units series. This module is mounted inside a control cabinet and ties into the common DC link of multi-axis drive packages. During rapid deceleration or axis reversal, it channels surplus regenerative energy into an external resistor network, limiting bus voltage and protecting converters and servo motors. By converting mechanical inertia into heat, the device helps maintain voltage stability for packaging machines, gantry loaders, and other automated equipment that require frequent dynamic braking.

The unit handles a continuous direct current of 100 A, which provides a sustained energy absorption capability of 45 kW when the DC bus is at DC 750 V. A built-in fan provides forced air cooling, and at rated load the electronic stage dissipates only 250 W as heat, which helps limit cabinet temperature rise. For short overloads, it can absorb a peak of 85 kW for two seconds, giving connected drives time to brake heavy axes without exceeding resistor limits. This operating range supports repeated deceleration events in systems with high regenerative energy.

The unit also has a short-time rating of 60 kW for sixty seconds, allowing repeated production cycles within its thermal capacity. To ensure safe energy dissipation, the connected resistor bank must not be lower than 5.4 Ω, which helps prevent current surges when the thyristor pair switches on within the 820 to 850 V range and when the DC link approaches the 980 V upper limit. The open-frame design carries an IP00 protection class, so the unit must be installed in an enclosed panel. Its 7.5 kg mass and compact 475 × 125 × 229 mm housing allow it to fit beside power supplies and inverters without placing unusual demands on typical mounting plates or cabinet layouts.
