Installed alongside servo drives, it converts surplus kinetic energy into heat so that the drive DC bus voltage stays within safe limits during rapid deceleration or axis overhauling. This protective function prevents overvoltage trips and allows machinery to brake quickly without feeding energy back to the supply network. It is intended for drive systems that rely on a shared DC bus during frequent stopping and reversing.

The unit can dissipate a continuous thermal load of 2 kW, which is the amount of power it can handle indefinitely during repetitive braking cycles.
