The HDS02.2-W040N-HS54-01-FW is a modular drive controller manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the HDS Drive Controllers series. It forms part of a multi-axis system and is intended to energize and supervise servo drives on assembly lines, packaging cells, and machine tools. Within an automation rack, it receives motion commands from higher-level control hardware and converts them into regulated drive output so each axis can maintain commanded speed or position with minimal following error during synchronized machine cycles.

Its communication backplane uses the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, allowing deterministic cycle times for position and parameter data exchange. The controller delivers a continuous output of 40 A, so connected drive modules can support medium-power servo motors without external current boosters. This output level suits axes that need steady current delivery during repeated acceleration and deceleration. Thermal stability is maintained by a built-in air blower that circulates cabinet air through the heat sink fins. Protection against accidental contact is limited to IP 10 per DIN 40 050, so installation inside a closed panel is mandatory. Reliable operation is permitted at ambient temperatures between +5 ... +45 °C; outside this range, derating or auxiliary cooling is required.

At elevations up to 1000 m above sea level, the unit can still supply full current, which allows standard operation in many industrial facilities. Output must also be reduced when the ambient temperature approaches +55 °C. The power section uses insulation class C as per DIN VDE 0110. As a member of the DIAX04 family, the controller carries line code 02 and hardware version 2. It can be stored or transported between −30 and +85 °C without damage to normal operating characteristics.
