Product Description:

The HCS04.2E-W1240 is a drive controller from Bosch Rexroth Indramat that belongs to the HCS IndraDrive Controllers series. As an HCS drive controller it manages speed, torque, and energy feedback for high-power servo or induction motors used in presses, winders, and large handling axes. The unit integrates a mains inverter with a braking chopper so that regenerative energy from decelerating loads is either returned to the DC bus or dissipated through external resistors, supporting stable operation in demanding industrial automation cells.

During dynamic stops the internal chopper can absorb up to 600 kW of braking power for ten seconds, a level reduced to a continuous rating of 400 kW once thermal equilibrium is reached. The power stage supplies motors with a continuous armature current of 894 A and can tolerate peaks of 1073 A for one minute, while drawing 834 A from the mains under high-continuous duty. Safe dissipation requires braking resistors not lower than 0.7 Ω, and branch protection is provided by two 600 A UL-approved semiconductor fuses. The device can operate as either an infeeding or a fed unit to coordinate energy inside a multi-axis system.

The DC link is stabilized by a capacitance of 23.4 mF, reducing voltage ripple during rapid power fluctuations. Thermal management relies on forced air: with an IP23 configuration the integrated blower moves 1800 m³/h, whereas the sealed IP54 variant needs only 500 m³/h and still meets the minimum inlet and outlet area of 15 dm². The assembly weighs 225 kg, so hoisting points are provided on the frame. A maximum braking resistance of 1.1 Ω can be connected to the M12 power terminals that must be tightened to 41 Nm. Acoustic emissions stay within the workplace limit at a sound pressure level of 75 dB(A).
