The HCS04.2E-W0420 is an HCS drive controller produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat within the HCS IndraDrive Controllers series. In multi-axis factory cells, this unit links a common DC bus to individual servo inverters, manages regenerative braking energy, and supplies coordinated current to the motors connected downstream. It converts an industrial three-phase mains feed into a stabilized DC link, monitors load conditions, and controls braking resistors so that motion axes maintain commanded speed and torque under variable demand. This arrangement lets the supply section feed multiple axes from one shared energy source, which supports synchronized motion across handling, transfer, and machining stations.
The controller delivers a continuous output of 300 A, while the line side draws 271 A at the same duty to keep the DC link charged. Storage for that link is provided by a capacitance of 7.8 mF, which helps flatten voltage ripple during load transients. That energy reserve helps the DC link remain stable when connected axes accelerate or decelerate in rapid sequence. For short acceleration bursts, the current can climb to 360 A for 60 seconds before derating. Thermal stability is supported by an integrated blower that moves 600 m3/h of cooling air through the IP23 housing. The duct area must be at least 7 dm² at both the inlet and outlet to avoid flow restriction, and the internal power electronics are supplied by 24 V DC from the same control rail that feeds external I/O. Braking energy can be dissipated through a minimum resistance of 1.75 Ω when the application requires dynamic stopping.
The cabinet footprint has a height of 950 mm, a width of 330 mm, and a depth of 380 mm, which allows accurate enclosure space allocation and airflow clearance. These dimensions suit cabinet installation where vertical airflow and service access must be maintained around the cooling path.
