The HCS04.1E-W0500 is an HCS drive controller developed by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for multi-axis automation with synchronous or induction motors. As a member of the HCS IndraDrive Controllers series, it routes regulated DC link energy to connected inverters and coordinates braking and regenerative operation across the system. Within a control cabinet, it forms the electrical interface between the line supply and the motion control layer, supporting stable speed, torque, and positioning tasks on production lines. This arrangement allows the controller to support axes that must accelerate, decelerate, and reverse direction repeatedly during normal machine cycles.

In operation, the unit is connected to a three-phase power network and can draw or return up to 500 A, so upstream protection must be selected for that current level. Internal thermal management uses internal air cooling through an integrated blower, allowing heat to be expelled without external ductwork. The housing has an IP20 rating, so the controller must be installed inside a grounded enclosure to prevent accidental contact with live parts. The controller maintains full performance up to 1000 m of installation height, and operation above that altitude requires current derating. Line and motor cables attach to copper bars with a through-hole for M10 mounting, which supports standard ring terminals and secure fastening in high-current layouts. Surge immunity matches overvoltage category III for plant-level distribution, helping the unit withstand typical cabinet supply conditions. The housing is finished in RAL 9005 black with a protective coating, and the infeeding power section can redistribute surplus energy from braking axes to accelerating axes instead of wasting that energy as heat.
