As a Design Version 1 unit in the compact HCS01 line, it forms the power stage of closed-loop motion systems in automated cells. The device accepts machine commands from a PLC, conditions incoming three-phase mains power, and modulates motor current so that actuators follow precise speed or position profiles during material handling, packaging, or light-duty machining. This makes it suitable for compact automation axes that need coordinated electrical control and consistent motor response under changing loads.
The controller exchanges real-time data with supervisory equipment through its MultiEthernet communication port, allowing TCP/IP-based protocols such as EtherNet/IP and PROFINET to coexist on a single interface. Motor position feedback enters on Interface 1, which supports IndraDyn Hiperface and EnDat 2.1/2.2 for high-resolution phase alignment. Internal thermal loads are removed by internal air cooling through an integrated blower, eliminating the need for external ducting and helping keep cabinet layouts simple. During acceleration or load transients, the power stage can supply up to 18 A of peak current to the connected axis. An IP20 housing protects against finger contact, so the unit is intended for installation inside a control enclosure. The single network interface also reduces separate communication cabling in compact cabinets.
The drive operates on a supply range of 3 × AC 200...500 V ±10%, which supports use on different industrial mains systems without transformer changes. It contains an infeeding power module, so energy can be shared or regenerated within a multi-axis DC bus. This arrangement supports energy exchange between axes during braking and acceleration. The control section uses the BASIC variant, which suits standard single-axis applications. The drive is not equipped with functional safety, so safe torque off must be handled by upstream contactors or separate safety drives.
