In an industrial automation cell, it functions as the power and control interface between a three-phase supply and a connected motor, delivering regulated current so position, speed, and torque loops can be closed by the higher-level motion system. By packaging the inverter, feedback inputs, and fieldbus hardware in one unit, it simplifies cabinet wiring and setup for single-axis machines and multi-axis gantries. The integrated layout also reduces the need for separate interface modules inside the control cabinet.
The controller accepts supply voltages of 3 x AC 200 to 500 V ±10%, allowing direct connection to common low-voltage networks. During dynamic acceleration it can source up to 8 A, a peak current that affects motor selection and cable sizing. The housing carries an IP20 rating, meaning live parts are finger-safe but the unit must be mounted inside an enclosure for dust and water protection. For real-time communication it incorporates a MultiEthernet port, giving the choice of EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, or SERCOS III without additional option cards.
