Within an automation cell, it supplies regulated DC-link energy to axis modules, supervises motion commands, and exchanges status data with higher-level PLCs. By combining power conversion with real-time control, the device coordinates motor speed, torque, and stopping behavior so conveyors, pick-and-place units, and tool heads follow programmed trajectories with repeatable accuracy. Because it manages both power delivery and command handling in one unit, it can reduce the amount of separate control hardware needed in a compact machine section.
Its integrated network stack supports the MultiEthernet protocol group, allowing parameter access over EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or EtherCAT without additional option cards. This allows the controller to work with compatible Rexroth motor feedback formats without an external converter. Cabinet installation is supported by the IP20 housing, which helps protect internal boards against finger contact while allowing normal airflow inside an enclosure. The power section supports infeeding or fed operation, so the module can operate on a shared DC bus or receive energy from a dedicated supply, depending on the machine layout. Functional safety is handled by built-in STO (Safe Torque Off) and SBC (Safe Brake Control) channels that remove torque-producing current and control the brake sequence during an emergency stop.
