Installed in a drive cabinet, it executes motion sequences, evaluates encoder data, and exchanges status bits with higher-level PLCs. The card combines axis control and discrete logic so one board can synchronize servomotors, actuate relays, and monitor machine states in automated packaging lines, pick-and-place stations, and handling gantries. That arrangement is useful in compact automation systems where motion control and discrete machine responses must be handled on the same hardware platform.

The module’s base power consumption is only 7.5 W, reducing panel heat and easing power-supply sizing. Command and feedback bits move through a Parallel Interface routed on a 37-pin D-Sub, providing deterministic timing without fieldbus protocol overhead. For machine signals that are not time-critical, the optional digital I/O expander offers 12 inputs / 8 outputs, while the onboard parallel connector brings an additional 16 inputs / 16 outputs directly to the CPU. When the card is first energized, the capacitors draw an inrush current of 4 A, so upstream protection must tolerate that short surge. The controller also accepts pulses as short as 100 ms, which supports quick handshaking with light curtains, proximity sensors, or pneumatic valve islands. Using the parallel connection also keeps signal exchange straightforward in systems that rely on fixed wiring rather than networked field devices.

Encoder handling is performed by channel EN1, which drives a resolver with a carrier amplitude of 18.2 Vpp and demodulates position signals at 4 kHz. High-speed counting needs are covered by the ENS track, which samples incremental encoders at 400 kHz for fast position updates. Resolver processing and incremental counting can be handled on the same controller when a machine uses mixed feedback sources. The MD1 auxiliary group supplies field devices with 24 V and can source up to 0.5 A for small contactors or indicator lamps, while the onboard relay is rated for 30 V DC, 1 A for switching low-power loads. Small external control circuits can be switched directly through that relay when their load stays within the stated rating.
