The controller exchanges cyclic and acyclic data over PROFIBUS, and the fieldbus lines terminate on a D-Sub 9 female connector for straightforward panel wiring. Mechanical dimensions are fixed at a height of 241 mm, a width of 49.5 mm, and a depth of 103 mm, allowing the module to fit beside power inverters without exceeding the standard rack envelope. The MD2 option card supplies 16 digital inputs that are scanned directly by the control system, which allows sensor states to be read with minimal latency. For absolute position tasks that use synchronous serial interface, the MD2 card includes an RJ12 6P port, and SSI signals are supported on line lengths up to 40 m at 1 MHz.
