It is used in industrial automation systems to coordinate drive axes, handle fieldbus traffic, and process fast I/O events inside a compact, rack-mountable housing. By combining axis control with integrated safety inputs and outputs, the unit helps simplify cabinet layouts in multi-axis machine tools, packaging lines, and material-handling cells. Its control architecture supports coordinated motion where several axes, I/O signals, and communication tasks must be handled by one central unit.

The controller presents an analog input resistance of 160 kΩ, so connected transducers are loaded only minimally, and its analog outputs step in 19.5 mV/inc increments for fine setpoint generation. Master communication takes place over PROFIBUS, enabling deterministic exchange with PLCs and HMIs, while a standard single-line display on the control panel supports local parameter checks. Three encoder ports are available: two EnDat 2.1 / 1 Vpp / TTL channels and one HSF / RSF interface, allowing mixed feedback topologies on the same CPU.
