It functions as the command and feedback core inside modular IndraDrive systems, coordinating axis motion by processing encoder signals, carrying out drive control functions, and forwarding fieldbus data to higher-level automation equipment. Installed alongside a matching power section, it forms a complete servo axis while keeping sensitive logic circuits separate from high-current components. In a modular drive assembly, this separation keeps signal-processing electronics away from the heat and electrical noise generated in the power stage. The board can be exchanged without disturbing motor cables or mains conductors.
As a communication node, the unit links to cell controllers over PROFIBUS, enabling deterministic cyclic and acyclic exchanges without additional gateways. Program parameters can be loaded through the front-mounted MultiMediaCard slot, which also stores machine-specific backups. The integrated digital inputs and outputs eliminate external terminal blocks for machine signals, while an onboard relay output can switch auxiliary contactors directly. The digital I/O can also handle simple machine interlocks and status signaling without requiring a separate terminal module. Closed-loop control relies on the primary encoder interface that accepts IndraDyn transducers, Hiperface protocols, and differential 5 V TTL signals. Diagnostic access is provided by the RS232 service port on the faceplate.
Additional flexibility is available through one optional slot; when populated, it can host the encoder board that handles EnDat 2.1, sine-cosine 1 Vpp feedback, and other differential formats. The slot count is restricted to 1, so the configuration must match the connected axis. For machine safety, Safe Torque Off disconnects gate-drive signals so the motor cannot generate torque during an emergency command. The standard operator panel enables local parameter edits and status viewing. Text prompts on the LCD and simple membrane keys permit changes even when fieldbus communication is inactive. Status messages remain visible on the display during local access and troubleshooting.
