By providing processor resources, volatile and nonvolatile memory, and a selectable fieldbus port, it coordinates motion axes, discrete I/O, and operator interfaces in factory lines, packaging machines, and general machinery cells. In this role, it manages logic execution and data handling for coordinated machine functions rather than serving as a simple communication adapter. Its form factor matches other IndraControl inline modules, so controllers, power supplies, and communication slices can be stacked on a single rail. The cabinet-mounted format also helps keep control hardware organized in compact assemblies with short wiring paths between adjacent modules.

A National Geode SC1200 microprocessor drives the controller and operates at a core frequency of 266 MHz, giving deterministic cycle times for IEC 61131-3 tasks. System memory includes 32 MB of DRAM, and that capacity is used as operating memory so user programs and real-time data share the same address space. Retentive variables and diagnostic logs are stored in 64 kB of NVRAM, which preserves content across power cycles without a battery. The platform operates without a fan and relies on convection through its aluminum housing, so cabinet layouts must allow for the expected temperature rise under load. This fanless layout also avoids added airflow noise and eliminates moving cooling parts inside the controller.

The mechanical format is Inline, which means the module clips directly to a DIN rail and aligns connector blocks with adjacent IndraControl devices. Field communication is handled through an onboard PROFIBUS interface that supports cyclic data exchange with remote drives and decentralized I/O. The CPU design is version 1, and the controller does not include SRAM, so volatile buffering relies on the DRAM array.
