A Motorola 68000 microprocessor executes interpolation, limit checking, and diagnostic routines while drawing only 200 mA of controller current per encoder channel. Program code resides in battery-backed RAM, and the board provides 128K of RAM for variable data and motion tables. Data transfer is handled through the RS-232/422/485 port at up to 19200 baud, and non-volatile storage for application parameters is supported by a watchdog and brownout monitor so tasks resume after power interruptions.
