The unit plugs into an IndraDrive power section and acts as the command layer for a single axis, coordinating position, velocity, and safety interlocks within automated machinery. By hosting bus communication, encoder evaluation, and drive safety functions on a replaceable card, it allows control logic changes without disturbing power cabling or motor connections.
The acknowledge circuit requires 24 V / 1 A, supplying the logic that confirms the drive can transition to an enabled state. Once energized, the control board itself draws only 9 W, allowing dense cabinet layouts while helping keep internal temperatures manageable. All real-time motion commands pass over fiber optic cables, giving galvanic isolation between the controller and drive. Data formatting follows the SERCOS standard, so deterministic telegrams synchronize the axis with upstream PLC cycles. For applications that demand fast update times, the module supports a channel rate of 16 MBaud, which helps reduce network latency. During initial charging of its internal capacitors, the inrush current peaks at 6 A, so upstream supplies must handle that short surge. For feedback, two independent encoder channels are provided. Channel 1 delivers 8 V excitation suited to resolver or HSF sensors, while Channel 2 supplies 5 V for EnDat 2.1, analog 1 Vpp, or 5 V TTL encoders, making the card compatible with a broad range of motor feedback devices. The integrated safety path is wired through a D-Sub 9-pin female connector and implements Starting Lockout, which inhibits power stage release until external conditions are met. That circuit monitors a 24 V, 3 mA signal level, enabling direct integration with emergency-stop contacts without additional relays.
