As part of the CDB Control Units series, it functions as the local processor that executes motion commands, supervises drive parameters, and passes status data to higher-level PLCs. It works as the control section for command handling, diagnostics, and status exchange between the drive and the surrounding automation system. When installed in an automation cell, the card supports coordinated multi-axis movement and integrated safety functions without requiring a separate external motion controller.

The card exchanges real-time data with external controllers through the SERCOS III interface, so position, velocity, and diagnostic telegrams stay synchronized on an Ethernet-based cycle. Internal electronics are supplied by an auxiliary line rated at 24 V DC, which lets control and safety functions remain active when main power is removed.
