The BTA20.4-NE-WB-VB-BS control board is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the BTA20 Machine Control Boards series. It is installed in machining cells to gather discrete sensor states, drive actuators, and relay field data to supervisory motion or PLC hardware through its integrated communication buses. By concentrating I/O processing close to the machine, the board shortens signal paths and simplifies cabinet wiring in industrial automation systems.

The module accepts up to 40 digital inputs for limit switches, proximity sensors, or light curtains and provides 24 digital outputs that can source or sink up to 200 mA per channel for coils or indicator lamps. All process words are transferred over a 3-word I/O data image, which reduces overhead on the backplane controller. Field networking is handled by the multidrop INTERBUS-S / BT-BUS interface, while local service ports include RS232 and RS422 links. The RS422 differential drivers operate at 5 V with a maximum line current of 60 mA, and an auxiliary +5 V bus rail supplies 50 mA for encoder or sensor electronics. Override channels devoted to feed and spindle speed are decoded separately, allowing the CNC to scale velocity commands without reprogramming.

The panel face carries an IP65 rating, so dust and low-pressure water jets do not compromise the keypad or status LEDs. Electronics are housed within a compact 407 × 169 × 119 mm enclosure that mounts on a 375 × 137 × 119 mm drilling pattern. A dedicated handheld interface can be connected through port BTC06.2 for parameter entry and diagnostics during machine operation. Eight external 24 V lines, arranged as 8 in and 8 out, support valve islands or light stacks, and speed-override data arrive in 4-bit Gray code form to reduce decoding errors during manual adjustment.
