The BTA20.4-ND-FM-VB-BS is a control board produced by Bosch Rexroth Indramat for the BTA20 Machine Control Boards series. Intended for distributed I/O handling on production lines, it connects field devices to the main PLC, processes status data, and forwards commands over an Interbus network. The module installs behind the operator panel and links peripheral sensors and actuators to the motion controller, allowing centralized sequencing and diagnostic data transfer in industrial machines.

Communication is handled through a INTERBUS-S / BT-BUS interface, letting the card appear as an intelligent slave on either bus segment. Its data path is 48 bits, supporting a compact process image for cyclic transfer of input and output states. The remote bus operates at 500 kbaud, enabling cyclic refresh of the I/O map in millisecond intervals while staying within the maximum cable length for copper links. To power its transceivers, the board draws a maximum of 50 mA from the bus supply, minimizing load on the system power budget. When mounted behind the operator enclosure, the front panel offers IP65 protection that blocks dust ingress and low-pressure water jets during washdown procedures.

In addition to bus traffic, the board manages two tiers of signal lines. There are 8 external isolated inputs and 8 external isolated outputs on pluggable terminal strips for field wiring that must be separated from logic ground. On the logic side, the CPU addresses 32 internal inputs and 16 internal outputs, which are used for panel switches, LEDs, or relays located on the same assembly. Each output channel can source up to 200 mA, supporting contactor coils without auxiliary drivers. The module identifies itself to the master with Interbus ID code 3.
