Installed behind the operator panel of packaging, printing, or machining equipment, the board collects local commands, drives light indicators, and links safety chains to the main controller. Its role in industrial automation is to translate button presses and override settings into deterministic bus messages while also hosting hardwired emergency-stop channels that remove power from actuators when an unsafe condition is detected.

The board supplies peripheral sensors with 24 V logic power and can source up to 200 mA, which is enough for several proximity switches or similar low-power devices. For data exchange, it offers a dual-protocol backplane that supports INTERBUS-S / BT-BUS with an application data width of 48 bit, so the master can address it clearly. Serial traffic on the local Interbus remote link is carried at a maximum of 38400 baud, while the sealed front panel meets IP65 protection for resistance to dust and low-pressure water jets.
