Bosch Rexroth Indramat’s BTA20.3-NA-SP-VB-BS is a plug-in control board from the BTA20 Machine Control Boards series. Mounted in a modular automation rack, it provides local digital I/O and serial fieldbus connectivity so the main CPU can coordinate sensors, actuators, and safety circuits on a machine line. The board collects status bits, drives low-power loads, and passes deterministic telegrams to higher-level drives or PLCs while occupying minimal panel depth in the enclosure. Its rack-based format also helps keep wiring concentrated within the control cabinet instead of requiring a separate standalone interface module.

In networked installations, the card exchanges process data over the INTERBUS-S / BT-BUS backplane as well as remote drop lines. For control diagnostics, it accepts asynchronous messages at rates up to 38400 baud, while cyclic telegrams on the green wire operate at 500 kbaud to maintain short update times. Eight isolated digital input lines, noted as 8 inputs, are sampled simultaneously and stored in an internal register before being forwarded to the master. Each sourcing output channel is rated for 200 mA, allowing direct actuation of small relays, solenoid valves, or pilot lamps without interposing hardware. This makes the board suitable for packaging, printing, and material-handling equipment that needs compact distributed control.

On the output side, the module supplies eight transistor drivers arranged beside two normally closed auxiliary contacts that integrate with emergency-stop chains. Parameter security is provided by 16 VB lock positions, and the two mechanical override switches allow temporary bypass during setup when controlled access is required. The varnished aluminum front plate with polyester overlay seals against coolants and cleaning fluids, earning an IP65 rating when the rack door is closed, while the remaining enclosure meets IP20 for inside-cabinet installation. All 16 process bits plus status flags occupy an I/O width of 3 words, so the host CPU can exchange the required data in a compact process image.
