It functions as a distributed I/O node that installs on a machine panel and exchanges digital signals between field devices and a central motion or process controller. By combining input sampling and output driving on one card, it reduces cabinet wiring and supports modular growth of automated work cells.
The board communicates over the INTERBUS-S fieldbus and identifies itself on that network with ID code 3. Pulse-coded data are delivered through the remote segment at 500 Kbaud, and each telegram carries a module data width of 48 bits. Input switches and proximity sensors are referenced to a logic level of 24 V, and the same rail is used for transistor outputs that energize contactors or pilot lamps. An internal DC/DC converter supplies the sensor chain with a maximum bus output current of 50 mA. Hardware resources include 48 digital inputs and 24 high-side outputs, allowing a single card to monitor photo-eyes, limit switches, or pushbuttons while actuating valves and relays. Differential drivers that conform to the RS-422 standard use 5 V signaling to maintain noise immunity across the machine frame.
The aluminum front plate measures 407 mm × 169 mm and is sealed to IP65, so washdown spray cannot reach the connectors when the door is closed, while the remaining enclosure meets IP20 for controlled cabinet interiors. Thermal loading is modest, and only 10 W are released under maximum traffic, so convection cooling is usually sufficient. Continuous service is specified up to 45 °C ambient and 1500 m elevation without derating, which suits most industrial production areas. Total installed mass is 2.1 kg, and the assembly mounts on a backplane that carries the fieldbus ribbon cable along with power for the electronics and field circuit isolation.
