Product Description:

The KM2604 is a relay output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KM Bus Terminals series. It occupies one position on a DIN rail coupler and allows the control system to switch four independent power circuits through the system bus. Within an I/O station, the terminal translates digital commands from the fieldbus master into galvanically isolated relay actions, making it suitable for decentralized load switching in industrial automation. Its relay-based design permits the connected circuits to operate separately from the terminal’s control electronics.

Each channel can interrupt a fault current of up to 16 A and withstand a maximum switching voltage of 400 VAC. The rated switching voltage is 250 VAC / 30 VDC, and the relay coils are energized from a control rail that supplies 24 VDC. The terminal contains four changeover contacts, which carry a continuous load of 16 A and tolerate inrush peaks of up to 30 A. The control electronics draw 15 mA from the K-bus and deliver 50 mA to each active relay coil. A process image width of four outputs allows the PLC to address every relay individually. Reliable operation is maintained down to a minimum switching load of 5 mA at 10 VDC, allowing the contacts to control loads with relatively low current requirements.

The relays provide an electrical service life of 1 × 10⁶ cycles and a mechanical endurance of 5 × 10⁶ cycles, allowing maintenance intervals to accommodate long operating periods. No manual operating mechanism is provided, which prevents unintended relay actuation from inside the cabinet. The compact housing limits the amount of panel space required within a distributed I/O station. The enclosure meets IP20, so it is intended for installation in a protected control panel where live components are guarded against finger contact but remain unprotected from liquids. Typical connected loads include lighting circuits, heaters, contactors, and industrial actuators that fall within the terminal’s switching limits.
