The KM2008 digital output terminal is manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the KM Bus Terminals series. In an I/O station, this product acts as a remote switching interface that links PLC logic to field devices through the system backplane. Its eight connectors each provide eight discrete channels, allowing a single module to populate control cabinets with high-density 24 V lines. By occupying a short segment on the rail and drawing its logic supply from the K-Bus, the terminal supports decentralized control in production machinery and building automation panels. This arrangement reduces the amount of space required for applications that use many independently controlled loads.
Electrically, the terminal works with a nominal supply of 24 VDC and permits up to 0.5 A of switching current on every output channel. Galvanic isolation rated at 500 V separates the field side from the K-Bus, protecting upstream electronics against noise and fault voltages. The internal electronics draw only 5 mA from the bus, so multiple terminals can operate in one station without placing a large load on the power feed. Output drivers accommodate resistive, inductive, or lamp loads, making the terminal suitable for operating relays, valves, indicators, and similar field devices. A diagnostic current of 15 mA on each channel supports the detection of blown bulbs or open circuits. Within the controller’s process image, the module occupies 64 bits, allowing all output states to be transferred during a control cycle.
The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, providing a secure installation within a control cabinet. Its enclosure meets the IP20 protection class for use inside covered panels, where it is protected against contact with large solid objects but not against water. The device provides 64 outputs, which can be wired using single-wire, two-wire, or three-wire techniques to accommodate different field connection requirements. Its high channel count reduces the number of separate terminal modules needed in systems with numerous low-voltage loads. The variable installation position allows the terminal to be mounted horizontally or vertically without affecting its stated thermal limits or switching performance.
