Product Description:
The KM2004-0002 is a digital output terminal produced by Beckhoff within the KM Bus Terminals series. It provides 24 VDC switching points for actuators and indicator loads, allowing compact distribution of field wiring onto the K-bus backbone of a Beckhoff I/O station. By combining four pluggable eight-channel connectors with internal K-bus power routing, the terminal simplifies high-density signal breakout to drives, valves, and lamps in industrial automation cells.
The electronics are supplied by the K-bus, and the module operates at a nominal control level of 24 VDC. A processor image of 32 bit aligns the output data exactly with the twin-EtherCAT cycle, so every bit corresponds to one of the unit’s 32 channels. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A, enough for small solenoids or LED stacks, and all 32 outputs are arranged as 32 (4 × 8) to match the four plug-in blocks. Although the terminal drives the load side, it draws only 5 mA from the K-bus for its logic functions, keeping the backplane current budget low. There are signal LEDs at every connector to confirm switching status, and the allowed load spectrum covers ohmic heaters, inductive coils, or lamp circuits, with a typical 15 mA internal load voltage current to operate the output drivers.
For inductive devices, the per-channel breaking energy remains below <150 mJ/Channel, reducing arcing at the field terminals. The housing carries a IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation in a closed control cabinet. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and can be mounted in any orientation thanks to the variable installation position. Four connectors, noted by the 4 count specification, give quick removal for pre-wired harnesses, and the circuit topology continues the K-bus power to downstream terminals without additional jumpers.
