Internal Product Review
The Beckhoff KM2004-0000 is a KM Bus Terminal with 32 output channels and a 24 VDC nominal voltage. An output rating of 0.5 A per channel and overload/short-circuit protection support dependable switching performance in demanding control applications. IP20 protection and 5 mA typical K-bus current make the terminal especially efficient for high-density I/O assemblies.

Product Description:
The KM2004-0000 is a digital output terminal block produced by Beckhoff within the KM Bus Terminals series. Designed for decentralized control cabinets, the module converts K-bus control signals into load switching for field devices. By grouping multiple channels in one housing, it simplifies wiring and supports compact machine layouts in industrial automation lines.
Its data format on the K-bus is 32-bit, so one process image word addresses all outputs. Each plug connector carries 8 channels, and the terminal internally maps those connectors to the physical outputs, reducing field wiring. During cyclic bus communication, the terminal draws only 5 mA from the K-bus, so backplane loading stays low even when many units are installed. The output stage is referenced to a nominal supply of 24 V DC, matching the common control voltage in machinery. Mechanical installation uses a 35 mm DIN mounting rail, enabling direct snap-on placement beside I/O and power modules. One KM2004-0000 replaces four standard bus terminals, freeing panel space, and its outputs can switch ohmic, inductive, or filament lamp loads without additional circuitry.
Each output is rated for 0.5 A, allowing direct actuation of solenoid valves, contactor coils, and indicator lamps. For block assembly, the permissible chain length of KM terminals reaches 80 cm, keeping K-bus signaling intact along the rail. A single Bus Coupler can host up to 64 KM2004 or mixed I/O terminals before addressing or power limits are reached. The housing carries an ingress protection rating of IP20, so the component requires installation inside an enclosure. Output driver electronics sink about 15 mA per active load channel, and built-in overload and short-circuit monitoring disconnect faulty channels to safeguard conductors and upstream supplies.
