Product Description:
The KM1012-0001 digital input module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the KM Bus Terminals series. It is a modular I/O element that receives discrete field signals and forwards their binary states to the controller through the backplane. By performing this signal conditioning on the DIN rail, the unit simplifies wiring and supports compact, distributed machine control architectures.
It offers 16 input channels, allowing a single terminal slice to monitor a full byte of sensor information plus an additional byte for simultaneous processing. Each channel operates at the nominal 24 V DC level, so proximity switches or PNP outputs commonly used in machinery can be attached without level shifting. A hardware filter of 0.2 ms suppresses contact bounce and high-frequency noise before data reaches the CPU. Compliance with EN 61131-2 Type 1 sets the permissible input current and threshold voltages, ensuring interchangeability with other standardized devices. Inside the terminal, incoming states are mapped onto a 16-bit process image, giving the PLC deterministic access to the entire set of inputs during every bus cycle.
The physical layout uses IP20 protection, making the terminal suitable for enclosed control cabinets where only finger-safe contact protection is required. Signal wiring is grouped in plugs that accept 8 conductors per side; two ZS2001-0001 plug connectors are supplied so both byte halves can be attached without tools. These plugs latch onto a spring-connection block that supports the single-wire method, reducing assembly time compared with screw terminals. The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN mounting rail and draws logic power exclusively from the K-Bus, so no separate supply terminals are needed. Plug-connector technology maintains clear separation between field wiring and the backplane, while internal labeling identifies the channels for straightforward setup.
