The KM1012-0000 is a digital input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the KM Bus Terminals series. It serves as an interface that collects discrete field signals and forwards them to a higher-level controller through the station’s internal K-Bus. Mounted alongside other slices, the unit saves cabinet space by eliminating individual wiring runs for every sensor. Because it carries no power contacts, the terminal is intended for signal-level tasks only, making it a straightforward choice for PLC monitoring functions in general machinery and building automation.
For input capacity, the module provides 16 Type 1 channels arranged across two connectors, each carrying eight lines to simplify field harnessing. A built-in debounce network with a response time of 0.2 ms suppresses contact chatter so transitional pulses do not reach the control program. The input circuitry is referenced to a logic supply of 24 V DC, which is the common industrial voltage for sensors and switchgear. Galvanic separation between the field side and the internal bus is rated at 500 V, protecting downstream electronics from ground shifts or wiring faults. Mechanical installation uses a 35 mm DIN rail, allowing tool-free clipping into standard enclosures.
K-Bus feed-through keeps process data compact; the terminal occupies a 16-bit section of the controller image so each input can be addressed individually without additional mapping. Environmental protection is limited to IP20, so the slice must be housed in a closed panel. Typical current drawn from the sensor circuit is only 5 mA, while the station backplane needs about 3 mA, minimizing load on the power supply. Continuous operation is permitted in atmospheres up to 95% relative humidity, provided condensation is avoided, and the housing can be oriented in any position to suit flexible cabinet layouts.
