Product Description:
The KM1008 is a digital input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the KM Bus Terminals series. It condenses sixty-four binary sensor lines into a single process image slot, allowing controllers to monitor large field wiring bundles without requiring additional cabinet modules. By plugging directly into the system coupler, the module becomes part of the K-bus backplane that distributes power, data, and addressing throughout an industrial automation cell. This arrangement supports centralized monitoring of switches, proximity sensors, and other binary field devices. The terminal format also keeps signal connections organized in control cabinets with high input counts.
The terminal operates from a nominal supply of 24 V DC, which powers the optically isolated circuits that translate field voltages into logic states. A high state is recognized when at least 11 V DC is present, with an input current of up to 3 mA. A low state is accepted when the voltage remains below 5 V DC and the current falls to 0 mA. These thresholds help prevent line noise from causing false state changes. An internal input filter with a response time of 3 ms suppresses contact bounce and narrow signal spikes so that only valid transitions enter the controller scan. The K-bus draws 5 mA from the coupler to refresh status bits and transfer input data during each cycle, keeping the communication load low during normal operation.
The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail for installation in a standard control cabinet. Each plug accommodates 8 channels, allowing field wiring to be arranged in consistent groups. The overall width is limited to 80 mm when every connector is populated, helping dense terminal assemblies fit within the available enclosure width. The enclosure carries an IP20 protection rating and is intended for installation inside a protective cabinet. The coupler supports as many as 64 terminals per segment, allowing systems with high channel counts to operate without additional gateways. Power and communication pass through the backplane connection, reducing the need for separate wiring between adjacent terminal modules.
