Product Description:
The IP5209-B310-0000 is produced by Beckhoff as part of the IP Compact Box Units series. This compact SinCos encoder interface provides position feedback to decentralized controllers in automated machinery. By integrating counter, reference, and status logic into a field-mountable housing, the device reduces cabinet space and shortens analog signal paths, which helps preserve measurement accuracy on moving equipment. Its compact enclosure also permits installation near the encoder rather than inside a remote control cabinet.
The measurement core has one counting channel for processing encoder position signals. The control status field uses a 1 × 8-bit word, allowing the controller to monitor operating flags such as errors and reference detection. Position values are accumulated in a 32-bit counter, while the reference mark is stored in a separate register for use by the controller. The front-end amplifier limits the analog track frequency to 100 kHz, helping suppress aliasing during signal processing. A peak sensor load of 0.5 A is available for encoder excitation. The interface accepts a 1 V peak-to-peak sinusoidal output and supports a single-channel SinCos encoder format. Status, counter, and reference data are forwarded to the controller during the same communication cycle.
Encoder leads terminate at an M23 screw-in connector with 12 pins. Supply voltage enters through one M8 four-pin plug and is forwarded to additional modules through one M8 four-pin socket. The regulated sensor supply provides 5 VDC for the connected encoder. Position data are sampled at 500 kHz before being processed at a final resolution of 10 bits. Each electrical period of the SinCos track is divided into 1024 steps, providing fine position interpolation without separate external hardware. The housing supports a variable installation position, allowing horizontal or vertical mounting to suit the available machine geometry. Screw-in field connectors help secure the encoder and power connections where machinery is exposed to vibration or repetitive movement.
