It acts as a remote counting interface that receives a 1 Vpp incremental encoder signal, processes position data, and returns it to the PLC over fiber optics for precise motion control. Installation on machinery is simplified by the IP67 metal body, an M23 twelve-pin screw connector for the encoder, and separate M8 male and female plugs that pass the 24 V DC power line through to downstream devices. Mounting the counter close to the encoder shortens the analog signal path and helps preserve signal quality before the data is transmitted over the fieldbus.
The optical Lightbus segment communicates at a rate of 2.5 Mbaud, delivering fixed-cycle telegrams even under high electromagnetic interference. Physical coupling is achieved through two fiber-optic sockets for ZS1020-0010, which accept the supplied 1,000 µm APF plastic fiber and eliminate copper bus grounding issues. Inside the module, a single counting channel polls the differential inputs at 500 kHz, which provides sufficient oversampling for multi-edge evaluation. A digital filter blocks frequencies above 100 kHz to maintain reliable edge separation at maximum spindle speed. With external dimensions of 30 × 210 × 26.5 mm, the housing fits alongside other IP-rated modules on narrow carrier brackets and leaves room for cable routing. The sine-cosine signals are digitized to a 10-bit amplitude scale, and the internal interpolator yields 1024 position counts per analog period, supporting high-resolution velocity control in servo axes.
