Product Description:
The IP3312-B310-0000 is a thermocouple input module manufactured by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. The device expands field-level temperature measurement by converting low-level thermocouple voltages into a deterministic process image for the control system. Its compact housing allows direct installation on industrial equipment, reducing cabinet wiring and keeping analog leads short to improve resistance to electrical noise. The module supports continuous temperature monitoring for ovens, extruders, packaging seal bars, filling machines, and material dryers.
A single module provides 4 analog inputs that accept thermocouples through a two-wire connection, so each channel requires only the corresponding sensor pair. Sampling and linearization occur every 260 ms, which is suitable for thermal loads that change gradually. Digitization provides a resolution of 0.1 °C per digit for control tasks requiring sub-degree measurements. The module provides 500 V channel-to-control isolation, helping prevent ground loops between the sensors and the controller. Results appear in the PLC through a 4 × 16-bit input process image, with an optional 4 × 8-bit plus 4 × 16-bit format. This arrangement allows the controller to process complete words or separate byte values as needed by the application. Broken-wire detection identifies open sensor circuits, while four selectable input filters help stabilize readings affected by electrical interference. A ZS2000-3712 cold-junction insert compensates for the temperature at the thermocouple connection point.
The module uses type K thermocouples by default, although software settings allow operation with other supported thermocouple types without physical modifications. Measurement accuracy is maintained with a total error within ±0.5% of full scale. The enclosure has an IP65/IP66/IP67 protection rating, preventing dust and washdown spray from compromising the internal electronics. Power and communication pass through one 4-pin M8 connector and one 4-pin M8 socket, allowing the module to connect within a compact distributed I/O arrangement. Thermocouple sensors connect through a secure M12 screw-in interface that resists accidental disconnection during machine vibration. The measurement circuitry draws its power from the US load voltage, so the installation does not require a separate auxiliary supply rail.
