Product Description:
The IP3102-B310 is an I/O component produced by Beckhoff for the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for installation directly on machinery, this unit provides field-level analog acquisition that is forwarded to higher-level controllers through its integrated PROFIBUS interface. The module consolidates power distribution, sensor supply, and signal conditioning inside an IP-rated metal housing, allowing decentralized data collection close to actuators and sensors. Its function in industrial automation is to translate differential voltage signals into digitally scaled process data that programmable controllers can use without additional terminal blocks.
This IP Box exposes PROFIBUS as its fieldbus, so parameterization and cyclic data exchange align with standard DP masters. Internally, the device allocates 4 differential input channels; each one accepts signals within the ±10 V nominal range and is digitized with a resolution of 15 bits plus sign, giving 0.3 mV steps across the span. Electrical separation is maintained by 500 V isolation between the sensor side and the control side, preventing ground loops when the box is mounted on moving equipment. Process image transmission occurs as 4 × 8-bit control words for configuration and 4 × 16-bit data words for measured values.
Fast sequence tasks benefit from the 5 ms minimum conversion time, while slower filtering modes can be selected up to 250 ms through any of the ten internal anti-alias filters. The housing meets IP65/IP66/IP67, so it tolerates wash-down or dust without external enclosures, and screwed M12 connectors secure signal wiring under vibration. Measurement linearity stays within ±0.3% of full scale, and a 35 V common-mode limit safeguards against offset voltages. The inputs exhibit more than 100 kΩ resistance to avoid loading transducers, and a sensor supply up to 30 VDC is available on the auxiliary pins to power reference devices.
