Product Description:
The IP2331-B318 is a decentralized I/O module produced by Beckhoff and supplied in the IP Compact Box Units series. It functions as a small field-mounted block that brings four digital inputs and four digital outputs directly onto the machine. This arrangement reduces cabinet wiring in industrial automation systems.
The unit exchanges data with the controller over the PROFIBUS fieldbus, mapping a compact process image of 4 bits input / 4 bits output. Each input draws only 6 mA and is filtered in 0.2 ms to suppress contact bounce before the data reaches the bus. All outputs are supplied from a rated load voltage of 24 VDC and can switch up to 2.0 A per channel, allowing direct actuation of solenoids or lamps without interposing relays. The sensor supply mirrors that current capability on every input channel so that active proximity sensors receive stable power. Because the load type may be ohmic, inductive, or lamp, integrated output drivers incorporate flyback circuitry, and the module’s short-circuit threshold is held at 4.0 A per channel to trip quickly and protect wiring.
Connectivity is handled through a downstream M8 socket, 4-pin for continuation of the PROFIBUS trunk, while the 24 V system voltage arrives on a dedicated power feed that also uses an M8, 4-pin connector. Signals from sensors and actuators terminate on M8 screw-in plugs, and the housing carries an integrated tee-connector so additional modules can be added without extra fittings. Steady-state electronics need just 30 mA, so most of the available supply is reserved for the outputs; nevertheless, the summed draw is limited to 4 A, thereby preventing power rail collapse. The output stages tolerate mixed Ohmic, inductive, lamp loads so a single module can handle contactors, coils, and indicator lights in one node.
