Product Description:
Beckhoff’s IP2331-B310-0000 is an I/O compact box built for decentralized installation close to sensors and actuators. As a member of the IP Compact Box Units series, it combines binary inputs, high-current outputs, bus electronics, and sealed connectors in one enclosure. Within an automation cell, the unit transfers digital field signals to the central controller and, in reverse, switches loads directly on the machine so that cabinet space and parallel wiring are reduced.
The module communicates over PROFIBUS, allowing cyclic input and output data to appear in the controller with deterministic timing. Each input channel draws only 6 mA, which is compatible with standard three-wire proximity sensors. A debounce filter of 0.2 ms is integrated to clean fast-changing contacts before the data are written to the process image. The output stage is fed by the plant’s 24 VDC line and can deliver up to 2.0 A on a single channel, so solenoids, indicators, or pneumatic valves can be driven without intermediate relays. Ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads are supported, and the transistor outputs are short-circuit proof, protecting the supply from accidental overloads.
At the process level, the device offers 4 inputs and 4 outputs, giving a compact image of 4 bits in and 4 bits out to the PLC. The cumulative sourcing capability is limited to 4 A, so load planning must account for the simultaneous duty of all channels. A separate sensor supply rated at 2.0 A per channel is available on the M8 sockets, and power is daisy-chained through an M8 input connector and matching output socket, both with four pins. Signal lines terminate in M8 screw-in plugs that preserve the enclosure’s IP65, IP66, IP67 rating against dust and water. Control and fieldbus circuits are isolated, while the channels share a common reference to keep wiring simple.
