Product Description:
The IP2321-B520-0000 is a compact remote I/O module produced by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. It mounts directly on machinery and links sensors and actuators to a DeviceNet line while maintaining IP67 protection, so no additional cabinet is required. In an automation cell, the unit acquires input states from field devices and switches load circuits locally, cutting down on wiring runs back to the main controller.
With 4 digital inputs available, the unit can monitor four separate PNP sensors, and each channel draws 6 mA so that proximity switches or light curtains are not overloaded by the interface. The opposing side of the device provides 4 digital outputs, and every output can drive up to 2.0 A per channel at the rated field supply of 24 VDC; this permits direct operation of pneumatic valves or indicator lamps without additional relays. The process image transferred over the network is organized as 4-bit input and 4-bit output words, enabling compact addressing inside the PLC. Because the module itself is not programmable, all channel logic remains under the host controller, keeping the IP2321-B520-0000 strictly as a distributed terminal.
Communication is handled through DeviceNet, and control-to-fieldbus isolation is provided so that bus transceivers stay protected from load surges. An input debounce of 3.0 ms is built in, filtering contact bounce before the bits reach the cyclic process data. For sensors supplied from the housing, each channel delivers 0.5 A per channel, while the total switch-side demand must stay below 4 A to prevent the internal short-circuit limiter from activating at its typical 4.0 A threshold. Power and trunk lines are routed through a single 4-pin M8 connector, and inverse polarity protection helps prevent damage if the supply is connected with reversed polarity.
