Product Description:
The IP2321-B520 is a compact distributed I/O module manufactured by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. Intended for on-machine installation, it combines multiple sensor and actuator channels so field signals can be collected and switched directly at the equipment. The housing accepts standard M8 cordsets, converts electrical states into a process image for the controller, and keeps the control and field sides electrically isolated to protect upstream PLC hardware. By localizing I/O, the unit shortens cable runs and simplifies wiring in industrial automation cells.
The module accepts discrete sensing points through 4 digital inputs. Each input draws only 6 mA and is conditioned by a 3.0 ms filter that suppresses mechanical bounce. Commands travel to actuators over 4 digital outputs that switch loads on a rated 24 VDC bus. Every output can source up to 2.0 A per channel, and an internal watchdog disables the transistor if that current is exceeded. Control and fieldbus isolation separates the EtherCAT interface from the power stage, inverse-polarity protection helps prevent damage from reversed leads, and a downstream M8 socket passes communication to additional modules without extra hubs.
The sensor rail supplies 0.5 A per channel, providing reliable power for proximity switches and encoders. When several coils energize at the same time, the module can deliver a combined 4 A, while a per-channel trip level of 4.0 A limits short-circuit energy. Idle load is 30 mA per output, which helps conserve capacity on shared 24-volt feeders. A single 4-pin M8 provides the power feed, and all signal lines use screw-in M8 connectors that maintain sealing without tools. The internal process image presents 4 input bits and 4 output bits, matching the physical channel count for direct mapping in the PLC.
