The IP2321-B510-0000 is an eight-channel I/O box manufactured by Beckhoff for the IP Compact Box Units series. Intended for fully distributed architectures, the unit places signal conversion close to sensors and actuators on packaging lines, assembly stations, and conveyor frames. The enclosure has ingress-protected M8 couplings, allowing digital field signals to be collected or driven without a cabinet while reducing cable runs and simplifying machine service. It communicates with the host controller over a single CANopen connection, making it suitable for retrofit applications where existing power and network trunks are already present.

On the input side, the module provides 4 digital inputs that are debounced by a 3.0 ms input filter and accept 24 V switching levels through M8 screw-in connections. Each input draws only 6 mA, minimizing the electrical load placed on connected proximity sensors. The module also provides 4 digital outputs, which are mapped with the inputs into a compact process image containing 4 input bits and 4 output bits. This arrangement supports deterministic signal updates over the CANopen fieldbus. Fieldbus data are forwarded through a 4-pin M8 socket that serves as the network continuation point for downstream devices.

The module supports a load voltage of 24 VDC. Each output can source up to 2.0 A per channel, while sensors connected to the auxiliary supply can receive up to 0.5 A per channel. The four output drivers support a combined current of 4.0 A total, and electronic short-circuit protection limits fault current to prevent the power network from collapsing. Supported load types include resistive, inductive, and lamp circuits, allowing the outputs to operate solenoids, indicator lamps, relay coils, and similar field devices. Power for the output stages and internal logic enters through a 4-pin M8 feed connector, eliminating the need for a separate distribution block near the module.
