Product Description:
The IP2301-B520 is a compact, block-style digital I/O station manufactured by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for installation directly on machinery, the unit combines protected sensor interfaces and fieldbus wiring in a sealed housing. It provides both input and output channels so a controller can read sensor states and drive actuators in distributed industrial automation. The compact enclosure places signal connections near field devices, reducing the amount of individual wiring routed back to the main control cabinet.
On the network side, the module communicates over the DeviceNet bus, presenting a compact process image of four input bits and four output bits to the master. Each of the module’s 4 digital input channels conforms to EN 61131-2 Type 2 requirements and draws only 6 mA per point from the connected sensor supply. An internal filter with a response time of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce so the controller receives clean state changes. Fieldbus isolation separates the logic from the load voltage to prevent ground loops, while reverse-polarity protection reduces the risk of damage from incorrect wiring. Signals are connected through M8 screw-in connectors that resist loosening when exposed to vibration in mobile machinery or harsh industrial environments.
On the output side, the block offers four sourcing channels that can switch up to 0.5 A each from the system’s 24 VDC load rail. The power feed can be daisy-chained through M8 4-pin input and output connectors, and the electronics consume approximately 20 mA per channel while driving loads. A total short-circuit current limit of 1.5 A protects downstream wiring from excessive current. A separate sensor supply rated at 0.5 A per channel can energize proximity switches without requiring additional terminals. Because the process image is mirrored directly to the outputs, changes received through the DeviceNet bus are reproduced with negligible latency, supporting deterministic actuation in machinery control loops.
