Product Description:
The IP2301-B510 from Beckhoff belongs to the IP Compact Box Units series and functions as a compact distributed I/O station for industrial automation. This device installs directly on machinery, bringing digital sensing and actuation close to the process so control wiring inside the cabinet is reduced. By combining hardened electronics with sealed connectors, it forwards field data to the controller and returns output commands in real time, making it suitable for modular conveyors, packaging equipment, and other decentralized architectures.
The IP2301-B510 offers four digital inputs and four digital outputs, with each path limiting channel consumption to 20 mA per channel to minimize load on upstream supplies. All signals terminate through rugged M8 screw-in connectors that permit quick sensor replacement. Communication relies on the CANopen fieldbus protocol, and control-to-fieldbus isolation keeps logic lines separated from power. Each input draws 6 mA and passes through a hardware filter of 3.0 ms, suppressing bounce before data enter the 4-bit input section of the process image. Inverse polarity protection and short-circuit monitoring are active on every port, and a 0.5 A sensor supply feeds proximity sensors.
For output tasks, the module sources up to 0.5 A per channel at the rated load voltage of 24 VDC, allowing direct drive of indicator lamps, pneumatic valve coils, or small relays. Protective electronics trip at a load of 1.5 A, isolating the affected circuit without disturbing the remaining channels. The fully potted enclosure achieves a IP65/IP66/IP67 protection class, so splashed coolant, dust, and temporary immersion do not impair operation. Because the installation position is variable, the box can be mounted on horizontal frames, vertical struts, or moving carriages without derating, and the process image provides four output bits for deterministic actuation timing.
