The IP2021-B520-0000 digital output module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the IP Compact Box Units series. It is designed for machine-mounted installation, allowing an upstream controller to switch 24 V loads at the point of use instead of routing them through a cabinet. By combining sealed wiring with field-terminable M8 connectors, the unit serves distributed actuators in packaging, conveyor, and small-parts assembly lines. This arrangement streamlines installation while keeping the I/O within the work zone.
The block accepts a nominal supply of 24 VDC through a dedicated M8 power feed and uses inverse-polarity protection to guard against wiring errors. Internally, it distributes that voltage to 8 discrete outputs, each presented on an M8 screw-in jack. The control electronics draw only 30 mA per channel, leaving most of the available current for connected devices. Every output can source up to 2.0 A per channel, allowing direct actuation of relays, pilot valves, or signal lamps. For network expansion, a downstream EtherCAT line is carried through a 1 x M8 socket with four pins, eliminating the need for separate tees. The cast housing and O-ring seals provide a protection rating of IP65/IP66/IP67, offering dust-tight operation and resistance to low-pressure water jets or temporary immersion.
The module can operate at temperatures from 0 °C to 55 °C. It can be stored at temperatures as low as -25 °C and as high as 85 °C, making it suitable for unheated storage areas and outdoor cabinets. Channel protection trips at a short-circuit threshold of 4.0 A, while the shared internal bus is limited to a total current of 4 A to prevent trace overheating. Additional safeguards include sensor supply limiting of 0.5 A per channel and automatic recovery after a fault is cleared. These protective functions provide predictable operation when connected loads are inductive or when wiring damage causes excessive current.
