Product Description:
The IP2001-B310 is an eight-channel digital output module produced by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for decentralized mounting on machines, it links discrete actuators to the controller through an integrated fieldbus interface. The unit provides individually switched power to loads from a protected 24 V supply, which helps keep wiring short and avoids the need for local terminal boxes.
This box exchanges data over the PROFIBUS network, so each output bit in the process image is transferred cyclically as a byte-wide telegram. All outputs are classified as Digital, and the process image presents exactly 8 bits, matching the eight hardware channels. The outputs are rated for a nominal supply of 24 VDC and can source up to 0.5 A/channel, allowing direct connection of solenoids or small lamps without interposing relays. Control and bus sections are galvanically isolated, while individual channels are not isolated from one another, which still protects the host PLC. Each channel can drive ohmic, inductive, or lamp loads, and a dedicated sensor supply matches the output current limit to simplify wiring of feedback devices.
A single upstream power feed arrives on a 1 x M8 connector, 4-pin, and the switched signals leave through compact M8 screw-in connections that withstand vibration in mobile equipment. Downstream expansion is handled by a 1 x M8 socket with four-pin coding like the incoming plug, so adjacent modules can share both fieldbus and power lines. Reverse-polarity protection prevents damage during installation, while short-circuit events are limited to 1.5 A by internal electronic fuses. Quiescent draw from the 24 V line is only 20 mA/channel, keeping power demand low when outputs are idle. Because the module lacks channel-to-control isolation, diagnostic status is reported through the bus in real time, allowing the PLC to disable faulty loads before wiring damage can spread.
