The IP1011-B730-0000 digital I/O module is produced by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. This sealed fieldbus device collects binary sensor states at the machine level and forwards them to an EtherCAT controller, allowing decentralized data acquisition without a traditional control cabinet. Designed for direct equipment mounting, the module accepts external logic power and connects proximity switches, photoelectric sensors, or mechanical contacts used in automated assembly, packaging, and material-handling applications. Its compact enclosure places input acquisition close to field devices, reducing the amount of sensor wiring routed back to the main control system.
Each input is referenced to the common 0 V connection of a 24 VDC supply and draws only 6 mA, reducing the load placed on connected sensor outputs. A built-in filter with a response time of 0.2 ms suppresses contact bounce and high-frequency electrical noise, helping the controller receive a clean state transition. The unit presents 8 discrete bits in the process image, matching its physical channels and allowing individual bit addressing in the PLC program. Sensor power is sourced internally from the control line and delivers up to 0.5 A per channel, which can reduce the need for separate distribution blocks. Cyclic input data is transmitted over EtherCAT and updated during every network cycle, providing current sensor states to the controller for machine sequencing and interlock functions.
The fieldbus interface uses one four-pin M8 socket for the downstream EtherCAT connection, while the sensor and logic lines use screw-in M8 connectors. These sealed connections maintain an IP67 enclosure rating along the installed segment, protecting the module against dust and temporary water exposure when the connectors are properly secured. Control and fieldbus isolation protects the communication electronics from potential short circuits affecting the peripheral supply. Individual input channels are not isolated from one another or from the control voltage, allowing sensors that use a common ground to share the same reference. Power enters through an additional four-pin M8 connector, and the distribution from this port supplies the connected sensors without requiring external distribution hardware at the module.
