Product Description:
The IP1002-B520 is a sealed digital input module produced by Beckhoff and supplied within the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for mounting directly on machinery, this module brings eight discrete sensor signals from the field into a controller over DeviceNet. Its IP-rated housing lets the part be placed outside a control cabinet, simplifying wiring in industrial automation cells that need short sensor runs and decentralized I/O.
Communication occurs on the DeviceNet fieldbus, so node addressing and cyclic data exchange are handled through standard CAN messaging. Each channel accepts a nominal level of 24 VDC, and the unit samples up to 8 inputs, transferring their binary states to the process image in a single 8-bit block. A per-channel sink current of 6 mA places only a light load on the connected sensor, while the built-in debounce circuit uses a 3.0 ms input filter to reject contact bounce or electrical noise. Sensors attach through an M12 screw-in connector, providing a vibration-resistant coupling that can be replaced without opening the enclosure. No inter-channel isolation is present, so all inputs share the same supply reference, but control-side isolation separates the DeviceNet electronics from the field supply.
Power reaches the module through the daisy-chainable M8 4-pin feed + M8 4-pin out interface, simplifying trunk line distribution along a machine frame. The housing is rated IP65/IP66/IP67, which protects against dust ingress and exposure to water without additional covers. For sensor excitation, each input can draw up to 0.5 A/Ch, enabling operation of inductive proximity switches or light curtains that need more current than typical two-wire devices. The unit has no program memory, and its inputs share a common reference rather than using channel-to-channel isolation during normal operation.
