Product Description:
The IP1001-B318 is a digital I/O compact box produced by Beckhoff within the IP Compact Box Units series. Designed for decentralized installation, the unit collects binary sensor data in the field and places it on the controller’s network without a control cabinet. By attaching directly to machinery, it shortens wiring runs and supplies 24-volt sensors through its integrated power distribution, making it a practical component for machine tools, packaging lines, and other automated equipment that require rugged distributed inputs.
The module communicates over the PROFIBUS fieldbus, and the Integrated Tee-Connector allows the bus cable to pass straight through while forming a drop to the device. Eight galvanically isolated input channels are presented; the entire module occupies an 8-bit input image, so one byte captures the state of all points. Sensors are powered from the internal rail; the nominal supply level at the terminals is 24 VDC, and up to 0.5 A per channel can be sourced. Logical “0” and “1” states are detected between -3 V to 5 V and 11 to 30 volts respectively, with a 6 mA input draw and a 3.0 ms filter to suppress contact bounce.
Field wiring is completed with an M8 screw-in header for each sensor and separate power feed through one M8 male connector and one M8 female socket, both four-pin, enabling daisy-chain supply lines. Rated IP65/IP66/IP67, the enclosure resists dust ingress and high-pressure water, so the unit can be mounted in wash-down zones. Reliable operation is specified from 0°C to +55°C, while components remain undamaged during logistics between -25°C to +85°C. An on-board comparator evaluates the high-level threshold of 11 V to 30 V to latch a logical “1,” ensuring secure switching even on long cable runs. Control and fieldbus sections are kept separate by internal isolation barriers, reducing ground loop risk.
