The IP1001-B310 is a remote I/O box produced by Beckhoff as part of the IP Compact Box Units series. Intended for decentralized wiring, the module collects eight digital inputs and transmits them to a controller. Its installation position is variable, allowing horizontal, vertical, or inverted mounting without affecting function. The device is not programmable, so all logic remains inside the PLC. Fieldbus isolation separates the communication section from the 24 V sensor domain to help avoid ground loops in systems with mixed potentials.
Communication is handled through the PROFIBUS fieldbus, so the module occupies eight input bits in the process image of the master. Each of the eight channels draws only 6 mA from the upstream sensor, and a common input filter of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce before data are transferred to the controller. The nominal supply for the electronics and sensor power is 24 VDC, sourced from the US control line routed through the power feed connector. Inside the device, the inputs are debounced and serialized into an 8-bit input image that matches the byte width expected by most Beckhoff PROFIBUS masters. Because the number of physical inputs matches the transmitted bits, channel addressing remains direct in the controller.
For wiring, the eight sensor leads terminate on an M8 screw-in block, while the downstream bus segment continues through a 1 x M8 socket, 4-pin connection at the end of the housing. Operating power is looped from the main trunk via a 1 x M8 connector, 4-pin interface, enabling daisy-chain distribution along a machine line. The integrated circuitry can source up to 0.5 A per channel to external sensors, which can reduce the need for separate power splitters. Individual channel status and bus diagnostics are shown by front-mounted LEDs, allowing quick identification of wiring and bus-state faults.
