Beckhoff manufactures the IL2302-B528-0000 coupler as part of the IL Coupler Box Units series. The unit serves as a decentralized interface that links field devices with higher-level controllers in industrial automation architectures. By combining input sensing and output actuation inside an IP-rated enclosure, it reduces cabinet wiring, allows I/O to be installed directly on machinery where space is limited, and supports distributed layouts in which sensors and actuators are placed close to the process.

The control electronics are powered with a nominal 24 VDC supply, and the internal circuitry draws up to 0.5 A during operation. Four input channels accept discrete sensor states, and the unit provides 4 digital inputs for reading switches, proximity sensors, and similar devices. Actuator side switching is provided by 4 digital outputs, enabling the module to drive solenoids or indicator lamps without additional relays. Cyclic data exchange to the PLC is handled over DeviceNet, while an optical-fiber-based IP-Link extension interface passes power and signals to downstream IL modules and maintains isolation between segments. Control voltage enters through a single M8 four-pin connector, and sensors or actuators attach by M12 bolted plugs that resist vibration. The device also includes two M3 mounting holes for attachment to machine frames, and an integrated tee connector simplifies fieldbus daisy-chaining.

Environmental sealing meets IP65/66/67, protecting against dust ingress and high-pressure water so the unit can operate on washdown lines without an extra enclosure. The housing is molded from PA6, providing mechanical strength and chemical resistance at typical plant temperatures. Overall dimensions of 210 × 30 × 26.5 mm allow installation inside narrow cable trays or along aluminum profiles. Because the module has no user programmability, all behavior is controlled by the host controller, which helps keep operation straightforward and limits local parameter changes at the device.
